A lot of kids struggle with math in school. Once you get past the basics, the concepts can feel foreign and disconnected from everyday life. Weak attention skills can make it even harder.
To get through long-hand division or order of operation problems requires a child to focus long enough to complete it. Each time a child’s focus is pulled away, they have to figure out where they left off and the likelihood of a mistake increases significantly.
That is why we were very excited to have parents and teachers tell us that their students were finding it easier to do their math. Teachers often describe it as improved time on task. That allows a student to get through the problem more quickly and reduce the likelihood of errors due to being distracted.
As Julia told us about her son: “In a few weeks, we could see how he was able to stay on task for longer periods of time.”
So if your child is struggling with math because they get distracted too easily, attention training can help.
Attention training can be done at home or school. Click on the links to learn more. You can also contact us if you have any questions. I would be happy to answer them.
